About Us

K & K Livestock is a family owned business that was started in 2003 by my husband Kevin and myself. Our love for foundation quarter horses has grown over the past few years into a dream of producing outstanding horses that are a pleasure to be around. We strive to produce quality animals with conformation being at the top of the list.

In doing this, we start from the ground up. A horse has to have good feet before he can be expected to work for a long lifetime and stay healthy. Lameness issues are the #1 equine health problem in the world. When you are talking about an animal that weighs over 1000 pounds, you must look for good strong feet. They can't be expected to hold all of that weight and size on 4 tiny feet. Next, we look for an animal with good straight legs and lots of bone to compliment those feet. A horse needs good legs and feet to preform any job that they are given. Round out this package with a large, solid frame loaded with muscle and you have a horse that can handle the work, whether it be the ranch, the arena, or the trails.

We feel that a lot of today's horses have become very fine boned which makes it harder for them to stand up to the pressures of a hard days work. We believe that going back to the older foundation quarter horse bloodlines helps to incorporate better conformation back into our horses. We try to look for the same attributes in our breeding stock that earlier horsemen/women looked for as they started the quarter horse breed...animals with good bone, strong feet, and big muscular hips.

We also look for gentle, willing attitudes that will get passed on to the foals. This is why we start most all of our horses under saddle and introduce them to cattle, to make sure they have some cow sense and are willing to try what is asked of them. It is this type of attitude that make our horses a joy to work with. We believe that this is similar to the horses that the founders of the breed looked for when starting the American Quarter Horse Association, the perfect all-around horse. With each breeding, we strive to get even closer to this perfect all-around equine athlete. And if we happen to produce outstanding individuals in gorgeous roan and black colors, then it is just an added bonus for us.
